Tuesday week 2
Stopping of at Quiznos (like Subways) to pick up a couple of 6 inch sandwiches for our picnic we headed for the hills, 2 hours later we enter the Rocky Mountain National park, wow very big rocks, its hard to believe the road we traveled on up to nearly 12,500 feet was originally made in 1931 enjoy some of the stunning views we experienced during our day in the park.
Us going up water going down.
As you would expect a long and winding road, hmmm song there somewhere!
Lake at the begining of the south entrance, 46 miles of park road to go.
Jo getting dizzy..
The journey up was amazing, where else can you drive up a mountain and enjoy so much.
Getting very cold, the coldest it got was 41 F
The great divide, apparently at this point waters on the right as you look drain into the Atlantic side and left the Pacific, of course unless US engineering gets in the way more on that when we get home.
Jo very cold again, and windswept
Oh, and yes a visitor centre on top of the mountain.
Our highest point, very windy and damn cold. We are both still in shorts......
Next our picnic a bit further down where it is a lot warmer.
Oh and Sarah, little Mountain ted has made a new friend, zoom in and see.
A really nice day, we have taken sooooo many pictures we hope one or two really shows the park views as we see them for real.
One final excursion to make and that is to Bear Lake. It was really cold there so Jo stayed with the car as I went for a little walk up to the lake, 45 mins I got back, soggy feet and very knackered, see why below.
A very short walk to the first view point, not difficult so i decide to have a strole around the lake.
Ah, not cold notice glasses on head, lost them between here and the car?
Oh crap where has the path gone, it would have been nice for the rangers to have warned that some parts of the trail were under like 2 feet of snow, doh!!!!! Should have worn my hiking shoes instead of hiking sandals.
hmmmm, definately have lost the path, turned around and scrambled up a snow bank to, hoorah, the path. Took about 10 steps and the path again was under a lot of snow.
Anyway made it safely back to the care and after a quick change of socks and shoe off we went next stop Cheyenne, after a brief skirmish with the park rangers, but thats a story to tell when home.
Finally some park wildlife.
I can't see him whos his friend x
